Jazz up your Herringbone Weave Skill with Two Earring Designs

View the Product Used in this Project

One thing amazing about jewelry DIY is you can create stunning jewelry with very basic techniques. Today I want to share with you two beautiful earring designs based on a simple herringbone weave wire wrapping technique.

Before jumping into the DIY projects, I want to show you again the picture instruction of one-side herringbone weave. You’ll need to understand this before moving onto today’s earring projects. (This picture is part of a basic herringbone weave tutorial, you can read it here.)

Design 1. Elegant Pearl Earrings

This is a very simple design. You can switch the color of the surrounding beads to match your outfit. In addition, the decorated pearl also goes well with thin gold necklace chain.

The making process is well explained in the video and picture instructions. The only few points I want to add is first, make sure the closed loop shown in picture 1 has 6 or more wraps. The loop needs to be tall so we can wrap the wire against it later. Second, when you are coiling the wire as shown in picture 5, try to use soft thin wire (28/30 gauge).

Design 2. Flower Beaded Earrings

The second project is a little bit more complicated comparing to the first one. It involves connecting teardrop shape beads using herringbone weave and arrange them into a flower shape. Along the way, add smaller beads to separate each “petal” and ultimately form a flower center.

To make the earrings more fun, I also added a coin shape pearl underneath the beaded flower and used extra wire to create a whimsical swirl at the bottom.

This project needs at least 17-18 inch (about 45cm) wire. I use 26-gauge wire for the job. Again, for the coil on the swirl as shown in picture 14, I prefer to use 28/30-gauge wire.
